To earn on YouTube you need to join the YouTube Partner Programme. To start earning ad revenue you need at least 1000 subscriber and 4000 watch hours for long form videos or I think its 10 million views on Shorts. This has to be within the past 90 days. You will need an Adsense account and your YT in good standing of course.

It wouldnt work for what I do unless I had people selling my etsy products as affiliate. I like to keep my videos ad free as possible,

With nails and beauty you could share sponsored nail product posts on YouTube, say you were to partner with Noriko or another big brand you would be able to share their maintenance products for keeping nails at their best etc not fully sure what products would be available but you could earn commission through a commission link on your YouTube videos even if just shared in the description.

I wanted to see if I could come up with a useful AI drop in prompt that everyone here can use to quickly come up with a guide for a new channel. All you need to do is customise the details about your channel and paste into ChatGPT or other AI.

And this is the kinds of results it can produce for you:

Hope people find it useful, it can be fun to see what results are produced.

I feel same way about TikTok. At 43 i feel too old for some of the content I see. And for me to create content, I wouldn't think younger viewers would have much interest in what I would put out there. Probably lack of confidence from me that anyone would be be interested.

Honestly at 43 youre still very young. You have more experience in life than someone a lot younger a lot of the time so it can be a good advantage so it will mainly be confidence holding you back. Just remember with confidence all you have to do is put yourself out there and slowly get used to it over time and build the skill. You didnt know how to do so many things in life until you tried and practiced. You may not capture younger audiences (although it is very possible) but you will find YOUR audience even if thats an older community who love what you share. Get the ball rolling you will likely surprise yourself :D

Have you chosen an AI narration tool to use? As long as you have the rights to using what you create with the AI voice tool I am fairly sure thats allowed on Spotify as a podcast. I have never tried it myself. I have checked and during upload theres no obvious checkbox for when using AI to generate your content. They have a few articles on using AI in podcasts so I would go for it. Spotify have really made uploading so easy for creators now too, I used to use Distrokid and Landr but now dont bother with them as much.

I think with your mental health it would be good to start slow and have a plan that eases you back into it so you dont become overwhelmed. I think not making a big comeback would be best and keep it small and less BOOM I AM BACK type of thing. You have to work with the energy and time you have. I had this problem with video making. I was making videos but when I felt down etc I was just avoiding making them over time. The way I got myself back was slowly coming back in a way I found easy which was not being on camera doing faceless videos temporarily. For your Facebook you could try coming back with a post about a new product that you have made and maybe write a note saying im still here guys with the post and slowly start posting again. Maybe set a personal goal of 3 per week if that isnt too much for you at the moment?

Just ordered a pair of these beauties in the Amazon Prime Day Deals, I used to have the Rode signature series mics but they were faulty and I ended up sending them back. Theyre on for £143 at the moment, usual price is £169. Really looking forward to getting them and testing them out. Hoping I have my old Tiger mic stands 👀 Anyone else tried them before? What are your thoughts on them? I once owned some Boya mics that were similar but they were awful with crackling and convinced me my Zoom h5 was broken when it was the actual mics.

    🤤

I heard this recently from someone that they feel "too old" for TikTok, theyre not even that old but they feel this way about using the platform. Does anyone else feel this way? I personally think anyone can use and enjoy the platform regardless of age but there does sometimes seem to be stigma around being an older content creator on the platform, similar to using Snapchat when over 25 haha 😅

I was looking on Amazon there for microphones and I noticed that they dont seem to sell the original XLR Blue Yeti microphones, they have the newer Logitech G Mics and and standard Blue Yeti USB version but the pro versions just seem to be discontinued. Does anyone know a good alternative XLR mic with similar sound quality to the Blue Yeti Pro XLR version, I was thinking maybe Rode has something similar? I find the USB versions just dont sound anywhere near as good as the Pro XLR too and I want to make use of my Zoom h5 recorder.

Maybe videos to help with anxious customers? Show the place you work and what the service will be like. I check places before I go somewhere on youtube

I second this, I have an anxious family member and I would always check places before going to them, for example she was anxious about visiting the cinema so I searched up the exact one to show her what it is like inside. People are always sharing videos of locations too so most places are searchable. Applying this to your own shop, salon, services etc is a fantastic idea.

Does anyone else struggle with recording in this heat? I am making a new channel very soon but I honestly feel like holding off until the heat has passed as I know I wont be as motivated to film for it. What do you do when its super hot like this? Postpone recording or just go for it even if its really hot? I remember years ago I would wake 5am just to get recording early before the sun was fully up and use my air conditioning an hour before using the room but to be honest that only helped so much.

I am really struggling with this at the moment coming up with a new channel name. I want something personal, something related to the niche and brandable but I find my name is so common it is difficult to find something that I really like. I wouldnt mind trying something really new and out there. When looking for a name for this forum I came up with some pretty unique names but ended up with the name WeMakeVids which I was so surprised was available. How do you come up with names? I feel like I need to really ensure this works because I intend to make something of this channel and have a real go.

So my largest channel feels dead, I am getting barely any views compared to my small business channel and I feel that just fully restarting again may be the best option for me. Has anyone done this before? It feels crazy and risky just starting again. I will let my subscribers know of course but unsure what else I should do to try and retain what I can from the channel. It is about 7 or 8 years old now. I worry that I start the new one and abandon the original and end up with neither channel performing at all. Same time I dont have much to lose at this point with videos performing so poorly. What do you reckon? Anything I should be careful about or should I just risk it yolo haha :D

Share your goals for making content this week in this thread.

This week I am very likely to create a new channel in my niche as I am finding my main to be really under performing and I think a complete reset by starting again could genuinely help me grow more. I want to create some more fun and upbeat TikTok videos outside too in the good weather. How about you?

I was using AI before to see if I can come up with some real data on what to post on YouTube, Tiktok etc in 2026 and what niches are popular and best to get into. Part of the results said this:

What to Avoid Steer clear of General Gaming, Generic Fitness, Gossip, Reaction Videos, and Daily Vlogs. They are too crowded for new creators to stand out.

What do you think of this? Personally think that in 2026 new channels are best off being very niche like for gaming doing content around one specific game perhaps or say with fitness focusing on say mobility and conditioning etc whats your thoughts, can broader channels still work or a waste of time?
