YouTube Haters, Trolls, Angry People - How To Deal With Them?

  • We all get haters and trolls writing mean things on our videos every so often. It can feel like they have a personal issue with the fact that you exist and are making content. I really have never understood the mentality it takes to sit on the internet and write nasty things about someone to try and upset them or gain leverage over how they behave. It seems quite controlling and narcissistic to want to behave in these days. I try to think that these people obviously have something going on in their lives that they are really unhappy about or maybe poor upbringing/trauma to behave like this but so many who have experienced trauma etc dont sit bullying others. It must take someone really hurting and hateful and angry inside to behave in these ways and likely have a lack of empathy.

They obviously get enjoyment and kicks from it. I wonder if they ever regret behaving in these ways or just find enjoyment continuously trying to upset others. I really do think the best way to deal with them is to just block and ignore the moment you notice their pattern. Theres no point replying to them at all. Without you listening and others listening they will surely get bored and move on to their next target. I think its good to remind yourself that not every comment needs a response. When people try to provoke you it is often best to just give them nothing to work with. You cant stop someone being nasty towards you but you can control their access to you and your own response.

What are your thoughts on dealing with people like this on YouTube and TikTok etc?

  • Sometimes I'm a hater, but you have to say something that really pisses me off. Like if I click a video, and your take is just dumb AF because you have narrow minded narcissistic goggles on, it makes me wanna be like "No dumbass, THIS is the truth". Like if someone is trying to defend a really bad policy, or white washing an issue. I USUALLY don't actually comment, unless I'm tipsy.... and then I do lol, fortunately this has only happened one time since being back on youtube. Somebody made a video where they played a clip from Primus (Les Claypool's Band) one of the most talented bass players of all time who loved to do wacky characters and write weird songs about sniffing glue and rednecks and stuff. Are the beyond weird? Yes. Is it amazing if you can comprehend it? OH YES. Always loved Primus.

And now that I think about it, it wasn't the person who posted the video who hated on them, it was someone in the comments, they said "So glad this band died out, they sucked in the 90's and they suck now" And I said something that ended with name calling, can't remember what. But yeah, videos can piss me the F off, and sometimes I wanna say something about it. HOWEVER, if the person hasn't offended me, if they aren't mocking something I think is good or defending something I think is evil, then I don't say anything.

For example I recently saw a music video pop up in my feed, and this song was so incredibly cringy to me that I was screaming at my screen, it seems contrived, nasal singing for no reason, fake ass sweetsy lyrics that drove me up a WALL. But I just left the video, no dislike, no comment, cause that's just someone trying to entertain people and it's harmless. So I totally get wanting to let someone have it when they are shitting on something you love or defending something you hate, I don't understand needing to do it because they made a joke you didn't find funny or put out a piece of entertainment that made you cringe. And I DEFINITELY don't understand hanging around to keep fighting with everyone after you've said your piece. But the initial knee jerk reaction? Yeah I can be that guy sometimes lol
