So I got myself the Tourbox Neo as I edit a LOT of videos per month. I am used to keyboard shortcuts and use Premiere Pro for editing. The Tourbox for me isnt something I need. It is something that helps speed me up a little and keeps the editing tools I need really close without flexing my wrist as much. I have ECU tendonitis in my left wrist/arm at the moment and I wanted something to help with ergonomics of my working.
Out of the box it feels comfortable in my hand. I wasnt keen on the preset buttons nor the ones on the Tourbox site so made my own with all my usual keys. I think everyone will set theirs up different on how they use Premiere etc.
I find the buttons easy to reach but the main jog wheel knob I find I knock a lot and it gets on my nerves. I feel like disabling it as I keep touching it accidentally when editing. I also feel theres a lack of buttons, another two buttons would have been really useful for me as I would have wanted a few extra shortcuts for quickly adding an adjustment layer, a black matt etc and I have already fully used up all the buttons.
Getting used to it has taken a little while but the HUD display is useful for finding a button if you have forgotten where it is. I keep forgetting where I mapped the pen tool and also the modifier button on the side I forget too.
I find the double click to be useful but the way I have them assigned does cause me a bit of confusion, this is my own mapping issue that I need to fix.
Overall it is something most wont need but its good to use, it makes editing fun with the wheel for scrubbing, adding ripple edits is so easy with it, there are plenty of buttons but I feel I would need two more for a couple of extra things. I do wish I got the haptic feedback elite option but at the extra amount for me it isnt worth it.
It was £135 on sale with free shipping from Tourbox directly. I recommend buying from there or Amazon for warranty and refunds.
Good thing is if you dont get along with it you can return it easily. I have decided to keep mine as its useful and makes editing fun and seems to be better than using a keyboard for my hand.
I recommend it to anyone who edits a lot of videos. People who edit more than 4 videos per week are likely to get used to it quicker than someone who edits once a month. You need some hours behind it to build muscle memory similar to any device. After using it for around 2 weeks I would say I am getting more used to it but still check the HUD which isnt bad, I am thankful it has one. I have never used any other similar devices before for editing and I am glad I chose this one. It has me pushing my keyboard out of the way during use as I get so tempted to use it every so often.
