YouTube Is Forcing Mid Roll Ads on My Non Monetised Channel and I Can't Disable Them

  • I am finding this frustrating, it must affect early channel growth to some extent. I am not monetised on my new channel but YT have automatic mid rolls enabled for all videos and I have zero control over them showing. I have commenters saying they got mid rolls during the videos and I am left unable to control these at all. I really cannot wait until I am able to access the controls for them. Until then my viewers are stuck mid video with ads showing which is something I really do not want. It is like a new music channel having song interruptions. Very frustrating for the musician and listener.

  • It's why I use adblocker now. I spent years being the type of person who purposefully watched the ads before yt videos to support creators and happily did so, I didn't mind if they were a 2 or 3 minutes, I did it out of respect. But youtube in the last year or so decided they want to FORCE people to buy premium (that's gotta be why they're doing this) by making the ads intrusive, egregious, and basically so frequent they ruin the content. I have tried watching 10 minute videos that literally had an ad every 2 minutes before, this gives absolutely NO consideration to the content and how this affects it.

But it gets even worse (Now I'm in rant mode) these ads don't even just auto-play and then go away, oh no, they will keep going for 5 min or more if you don't press skip!! So there goes long form content and just letting it play in the background cause every 10 minutes you either listen to 5 minutes of ads or go over to your computer and hit skip, there goes music videos cause who wants an ad interrupting a song, it's seriously one of the most disgusting decisions youtube's ever made and totally anti-creator/anti-consumer. So adblock it is...

Yeah I listen to a Final Fantasy for sleep video and that has mid rolls on and its a pain, it done it the other day on a 6 min song lol and I wasnt mid singing to it. Its good creators can switch it off but very annoying when below the threshold to monetise as I want them off ASAP.

I use it myself although I dont really agree with it. I consume a lot of YT on a phone and TV which has the ads so it isnt too bad. Just when on PC I have them blocked.

  • Wait, creators can turn them off? I didn't even know that. I hadn't thought about whether or not mine might have them, I sure as heck don't want them on anything though.

Yeah man theres a switch for mid rolls. I usually have them off, on long form content they are a massive nuisance but until you are monetised theyre on as you have zero switches :D
