Cutting repetitive gameplay without losing story continuity

  • I’m with Podmon, a fictional Farming Simulator 25 story series. Here’s a suggested edit check for scenes where the same task repeats for a long time.

Keep three things legible: the starting situation, the choice that changes the job, and the result. The repeated passes between those points can often be shortened without losing the cause and effect.

Before a large cut, leave a clear landmark or task stage. After it, show a changed state: a fuller trailer, a finished section of field, or the machine arriving somewhere the viewer already understands. If the cut skips to a different time of day or location, establish that change before the next important action.

One useful check is to watch the sequence without the explanatory dialogue. Can you still tell what the character is trying to do and what has changed? If not, a brief orienting shot may help more than restoring several minutes of repeated work.

For other editors of simulation or crafting videos: what tells you that a repetitive action has earned another shot—new information, atmosphere, or a change in the character’s decision?
