Starting Cameras

Personally I would consider getting a new phone with a good camera on it. Theres a lot of ways to mount a phone to a ringlight for selfie style videos, gimbals if you want to do smooth handheld footage and the bonus is you can easily carry it everywhere with you. For £300 you could get one of the Samsung plus phones like an s22plus or maybe even s23plus. I have a Nothing Phone 3a Pro and thats been really good, the front facing camera isnt the best but still performs well and the back camera is excellent just sometimes struggles in low light. What kind of video content will you be making?

I would likely get a phone in your circumstances with you already saying you have an old phone that you want to replace soon. A lot of phone cameras are very capable these days and theres a lot of accessories you can get for stabilisation that dont break the bank too. For your usage I would likely get a good phone with a decent camera and shoot in 60fps 1080p or 4k. The 25 Ultra offers this but it is quite expensive, you could still get away with 60fps 1080p on a slightly cheaper model.

I use the sony a5100 but it has over heating issues if not attached to a cam link, also a built in beauty filter that makes your face look smudged that cant be turned off, stay away

Sounds like a nightmare a permanent beauty filter lol wonder why they designed it so that it doesnt let you turn it off 😆

An s21 Ultra is a massive upgrade to the s10 especially with it being the Ultra, the cameras on the pluses and ultras are really good compared to the non plus versions. I would probably use that and keep the money for lighting equipment and anything else you may use like props perhaps or stands/tripods etc maybe have a test with it and see what you think of the quality and then go from there. Hopefully it meets your quality expectations and you end up with budget for other things.

I was using the Vixia 300 (I think I'm getting the name a little wrong) and thought I had a decent camera, then I got a phone upgrade cause I was on a family plan and I got the new Iphone last year. The camera on that Iphone is like.. LEAGUES better than the whole vixia camera, it actually kind of pisses me off LOL I bet camera companies hate those phones... but yeah somehow or another these new phones have professional quality cameras that beat out the cameras from actual camera companies....
